Rules of Engagement
The rules to Paintball are simple. The objective to most games is to evade your foe and eliminate your competition. Each game is different and rules can vary depending on the nature of the game.
General Safety
- If you become injured, notify staff immediately. They will assist you and see that appropriate medical aid is summoned.
- Absolutely no physical contact. Do not say or do anything to provoke an argument
or start a fight. Any disputes should be taken the referee first. As a result a player that initiates physical contact will be ejected from the premises!
- No firing your gun in anger or with intent to injure another person. Offenders will be banned from the premises.
Goggle Safety
- Approved eye protection must be worn by all players and kept in place at all times while the players are on the playing field, whether a game is in progress or not. Fogged goggles will not be removed.
- If goggles get knocked off during a game, cover eyes with both hands and call "LOST GOGGLES" until a referee or player arrives to help get the goggles back on safely. Players missing their goggles will not be fired on until the goggles are back in place.
- If a player wilfully removes his/her goggles for any reason, the player will be removed from the current game and will be counselled on proper wear of all safety gear. If there is a second infraction, the player will not be allowed to play for the rest of the day.
- If goggles get dirty or painted there will be cleaning material available either at base bunker or a safe distance away from the field. There are no requirements for the referees to clean or defog any goggles.
Safe Operation of Paintball Guns
- MARKERS SHALL NOT BE TAKEN INTO ANY "GOGGLE OFF" AREAS UNDER ANY
CIRCUMSTANCES. This includes but is not limited to entering and exiting playing areas, entering and exiting chronograph areas, entering and exiting target areas, parking areas, staging areas, sales and service areas and viewing areas.
- All paintball guns will be chronograph before being allowed onto the field for the first game. The speed limit for all guns is 270 fps.
- Guns may only be fired on the firing range or on the playing field. Goggles will be worn whenever a gun is being fired.
- Shooting of Mountain Bikers or wildlife (birds, cats, dogs) will not be tolerated. Any player caught shooting an animal will be immediately removed from the field.
- Referees are not to be deliberately shot at – Firing Squad for those who do!
- Excessive multiple hits by one shooter upon one player will not be tolerated – 3 break rule applies.
- Avoid shooting at ranges closer than 10 feet - See 20 foot surrender rule.
- Never look down the barrel of the paintball gun and never put your mouth over the end of the barrel.
- Players will not participate in blind firing at any time. Players may only shoot at targets that they can see.
- Paintball markers will only be fired in single shot mode. Fully automatic and turbo modes are prohibited.
BARREL PLUGS ARE MANDATORY IN ALL "GOGGLES OFF" AREAS
- A barrel plug is exactly that, a plug designed to fit in the end or over the end of a barrel, not a stick squeegee, a pull squeegee, a sock or towel!
- Mandatory "barrel plug" enforcement in all areas excluding the playing fields when in play.
Cylinders must be HYDE Static Tested
- All C02 and HPA cylinders must be tested in accordance to manufacture safety standards. It is both unlawful and unsafe to fill an out of date cylinder. These cylinders undergo this test to make sure that they still have enough structural integrity to withstand the rated cylinder pressure.
- Dates for hydrostatic testing are stamped on cylinders and may vary dependent upon
brand of cylinder. Any cylinder visibly damaged or not clearly marked as to its fill capacity WILL NOT be filled.
- CAUTION: Keep cylinders out of sun due to danger of explosion.
Safety rules and precautions
- A full waiver, with a guardian signature if under 16, must be signed to play
- No player may shoot another player within 5 metres
- Try not to shoot people in the head or groin
- No player is allowed on the road or undesignated playing areas
- All players must obey the referees directions and rules
- No player is allowed to pick up paintball markers once the masks have been removed during rest times
- During a game masks are to be worn at all times by all persons on the playing field and never removed for any reason. Never fire at anyone not wearing a mask.
- Under 15 feet in distance, all players must offer a surrender (mercy) call. The receiving player also has the option to surrender or attempt to turn and shoot. This rule is exempt for tournament play.
- Once a player is close enough and touches you with a barrel and says “barrel” or “barrel tag” you are eliminated. Call for a medic or, if no medic is available, walk off the field. An eliminated player cannot shoot while walking off the field.
- Markers must have safeties on at all times, except while in play.
- NO ALCOHOL or illegal drugs allowed
- No Profanity is allowed (on the field or in the staging area)
- All players must remain within boundaries to remain in play. If a player goes out of
bounds, they will be eliminated from the game.
- Barriers and obstacles are not to be moved or modified in any way.
- No lighters, matches, tobacco products are allowed on the playing fields
- No physical contact is allowed between players
- Obstacles and other hazards are a danger. Players should be cautious while moving about the fields
- Mountain Bikers should be avoided and not shot at
- Caution should be exercised when moving around the forest and crossing obstacles, surfaces can be slippery and unstable
- If any hazard is found, STOP PLAY AND NOTIFY THE REFEREE IMMEDIATELY. THEN WAIT FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTION.
- If for any reason your gun is not working and you are not sure of the problem alert a referee and they will assist you.
- Do not pick up paintballs off the ground, they ruin the guns. Do not over fill your ammo loader.
- Do not lay rental equipment on the ground.
- Remember it’s only a game - keep your sense of humour, play fair, have fun. If
someone is doing something they shouldn't, politely make sure they know to not do it again, and go on with the next game. If they continue, report it to the staff so they can check into it
CALLING YOURSELF OUT ("HITS")
- When a player is hit by a paintball (Tagged) and it breaks on him, he must immediately loudly call “HIT” and lie down and call for a medic. He may not get up until Tagged by a medic.
- Once tagged by a medic, Players must exit the game at the designated exit point (to be specified by the referee prior to game start) with the paintball marker (Gun) elevated above their head to indicate they are a neutral player.
- Players must quickly exit the field, no talking to active players Dead Players
cannot talk to Live Players Dead men don't talk! Once you are out you cannot say anything but "I'm hit, I'm out!" You cannot gesture or otherwise convey any information to any other player.
- Imitating a “HIT” player will not be tolerated.
- If a player’s rifle is hit he must immediately switch to his secondary weapon, no exceptions. In the case that all weapons are tagged the player is out.
- If a player signals their elimination then realises that the paintball bounced off,
they are still eliminated as they have called themselves out. In this case a medic must tag him in order to revive him.
- A head shot is a dead shot. A player is not out of the game if he is struck by splatter from a paintball.
- A player not ceasing fire or calling himself out when obviously hit will incur penalties and any resultant hit opposition players can be returned to play at ref’s discretion.
SURRENDERS
- If an attacking player is within 20 feet of another player, that player may demand a “surrender.” If the defending player accepts the “surrender”, he/she will leave the field as a “hit” player. If the defending player does not accept the “surrender”, he/she has the right to return fire.
- Whenever you get a player in a hopeless situation, (i.e.; you are 20 ft or less
from a player who has no idea you are there), you should offer the player a chance to surrender rather than shoot at close range. Call out "SURRENDER". If s/he does not respond in a non-aggressive manner fast enough for you, you may shoot. Absolutely No head shots or multiple shooting will be tolerated.
- To surrender, a player may call "OUT", "HIT", "I SURRENDER", or any other statement that will convey a positive response. Players not making any response or those who try to bluff will probably be shot.
- The “Surrender” option is to reduce the number of injuries experienced from
being hit at close range. It is strictly an option. Players are highly encouraged to use it.
- If two or more players shoot each other simultaneously all must be eliminated. If there are any disagreements the ref will decide.
Sportsmanship
- All players must play in a friendly and sportsman like manner.
- No physical contact, swearing or other aggressive behaviour is permitted.
- No player shall fire upon spectators, referees, wildlife, neutral or eliminated players. Any violators will be subject to Penalties.
- No player is permitted to smoke in the forest, or consume alcohol or drugs during or prior to game.
ELIMINATIONS
- A player is eliminated when a paintball breaks and leaves a paint mark at least a quarter size or larger anywhere on the player.
- There is no elimination if the paintball does not break upon impact.
- If the paintball splatters after hitting a tree or other object, the player is not eliminated.
- If a paintball hits and breaks anywhere on a gun, hopper or any other piece of equipment on a player, that player is out.
- When a player has been hit in a location that he cannot see, he may call for a paint check. The player must call "PAINT CHECK ME" and continue to play. A judge will come over to check the player for a hit, do not stop playing.
If the judge feels it necessary to move the player to check him, he will call the player
neutral by shouting out "THIS PLAYER IS NEUTRAL", and will place a hand on the player. If you see a judge with his hand on a player, that player is neutral. Neutral players may not be fired upon, and they may not fire.
Neutral players may not move, and no player may move to improve their position on this player. Once the paint check has been resolved the judge will call the player in or out, and the
game will resume.
- A player may call a paint check on another player if he is reasonably sure the player has been hit and marked. To do this the player calling the paint check must say "PAINT CHECK" FOLLOWED BY THE LOCATION AND IF POSSIBLE THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PLAYER TO BE CHECKED. (i.e. "paint check the guy in the black sweatshirt behind the blue barrel to my right").
The more exact the location and description are given, the faster your paint check will be executed. Judges will not respond to a player simply calling "Paint check". If paint checks are called excessively or needlessly the judge may eliminate the player calling the checks. When calling a paint check on another player you may not move on that player, but you should continue to fire.
You should
encourage players who you believe you have eliminated to check themselves by calling out "CHECK YOURSELF PLEASE". Again, be as specific as possible by telling the player exactly where to check. When a player checks himself, you must stop firing at him.
- If you shoot a player, and he is hit, QUIT SHOOTING!!!! Excessive Shooting will cause you to be ejected from the game. Be careful not to shoot players that are "out" and are leaving the field.
- Three ball break rule – Shooting and hitting a player where three or more balls break on a player is prohibited. The first offense will result in a verbal warning. A second offense will result in sitting out two games. Any additional offenses will result in ejection.
- If you a caught rubbing off paint while in the game to avoid calling yourself "out", you will not be allowed to play. Cheaters will not be tolerated.
REFEREES
- The referees have the right to go anywhere on the playing field, all players must yield to the referees.
- All decisions made by the referee are final. A player may be ejected from the field for arguing or disagreeing with the referee. If a dispute does occur between a player and a referee, it should be brought off the field and taken to the head referee.
ITEMS PROHIBITED ON THE PLAYING FIELD
Any item the Paintball staff feels is unsafe, unfair, or changes the concept of the game will not be allowed onto the field. The following items are not allowed on the field:
- Cigarettes, Lighters, matches and fireworks or other explosives
- Velocity adjusting tools.
- Excessive layering of clothing (kids, cold weather allowed).
- Excessively baggy clothing.
- Foam padding (groin/men, chest/women, knee and elbow protection allowed).
- Plastic and rubber clothing.
- Laser sights unless specifically authorized.
- Full length Ghillie suits may only be worn with permission from the referee.
PROPER CLEANING OF GUNS AND GOGGLES
- If goggles need to be cleaned, use the cleaning solution and tissue paper
located at the cleaning table. Do not use Windex or any other commercial based cleaner.
- Use a squeegee and rag located at the cleaning area to clean any paint that may be in your gun.
EJECTIONS FROM THE FIELD
PLAYERS ARE SUBJECT TO EJECTION FROM FIELD FOR THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL REASONS:
- Continual failure to follow any of the guidelines on this form may result in ejection from all paintball facilities.
- Removing or lifting goggle/face mask system after first warning.
- Any fighting with other players or referees
- Failure to play in a safe manner.
- Blind shooting (shooting without looking) after first warning.
- Any player that his/her actions would make it not pleasurable or unsafe for others to return to play and have fun.
