What is Paintball?
- Paintball continues to be one of the fastest growing leisure activities throughout New Zealand.
- Paintball
is a sport for all – young, old, men, women, fit or unfit – everyone is playing it, and all are welcome at Pukeora Paintball. - Paintball is played using special CO2 powered semi-automatic “markers” or paintguns”.
- When the trigger is pulled, a single paintball is fired from the marker at Approximately 280 feet per second!
- A successful shot will leave a “splat” on your opponent and eliminate them from that game.
Rental Equipment - Rental equipment is of a high standard and in excellent condition. All equipment is thoroughly washed and serviced before every use.
Paintball Guns
- We use BT4 Combat semi automatic Markers (paintball guns), these are extremely reliable, capable of firing up to 11 balls per second. (Cleaned, serviced & refilled with gas before every use). The semi-automatic markers are simply point and shoot, they are powered by carbon dioxide (C02) which is stored in 9 oz, 12 oz and 20 oz C02 Cylinders. Our BT4 Combat semi-automatic Markers are set to fire at an approximate velocity of 280 feet per second. The paintballs are propelled to a distance of around fifty to eighty metres depending on the speed setting of the markers.
C02 Cylinders
- We use 9 oz and 12 oz lightweight aluminium Cylinders filled with carbon dioxide (C02) to propel the paintballs out of the paintball gun, capable of firing up to 400 - 600 balls per cylinder.
Goggles
- We use the Extreme Rage X-Ray Protector Goggle system, which give excellent protection to the eyes and face. They are fitted with fog resistant lenses, high quality adjustable strap, and chin strap for extra safety. They are washed thoroughly before every use. For your safety, paintball players must always wear goggles specifically designed for paintball to protect their eyes. Goggles must be worn during a game and at all times when a person is in an area where shooting is permitted, such as the target range or chronograph area.
Paintballs
- A paintball is a round, thin skinned gelatine capsule around 1.5 cm (0.68”) in diameter filled with brightly coloured vegetable dye. The paintballs are non-toxic, non-caustic, water-soluble and biodegradable. The dye rinses out of clothing in a normal wash and off skin with mild
soap and water. Paintballs come in a range of different colours; pink, white, orange, red, yellow etc. When a paintball tags a player the thin gelatine skin splits open and the liquid inside leaves a bright ‘paint’ mark. A player who is marked is eliminated from the game or serves some
type of penalty before continuing.
Fields
- Pukeora Paintball is widely recognised as one of the North Island's premiere bush based paintball venues, and is situated within 120 acres of challenging natural bush terrain with 9 different field formats equipped with bunkers, trenches, bridges and obstacles which are
scattered throughout natural creek gullies and swamps within the forest, allowing for maximum strategic assaults, not to mention a good place to hide when the game gets to tough!
Does Paintball Hurt?
- Only if you get hit by a paintball! But seriously, if you don't want to get hurt, you won’t. It depends entirely on how you play. Our qualified staff supervise all games at a close distance to ensure no player is tagged within 5 metres. The surrender rule is also strictly enforced. Each player is provided with safety equipment including face masks to
minimise the impact of paintballs.
Staging Area –We have an elevated and screened viewing area within the Reception & Staging Area (safety zone) for people to sit out of games or for those who want to watch. Spectators anywhere else must be wearing safety goggles at all times that games are in progress. Smoking is restricted to the fire safe Reception & Staging Area.

CO2 Cylinder Safety
IF THE CO2 CYLINDER UNSCREWS, IT CAN HIT & KILL SOMEBODY
Important safety issue concerning all involved in paintball.
REPAIRS
–Valve changing, installing, or any modifications to the pin valve assembly, siphon or anti-siphon device, should only be done by qualified and trained person.
Players! If you notice any leak, or looseness between the valve and the tank, STOP, take it immediately to the Umpire/Referee or an ERMA Approved Filling Station for inspection.
When you remove a cylinder, look to see that the tank and valve - as a unit - are unscrewing from the marker. Better still, place your hand so it is holding the valve and the cylinder at the same time so you can feel, as well as see the valve turning with the cylinder.
At Pukeora Paintball we recommend that you paint a line of white (or bright) paint from the top of the brass fitting down onto the black part of the cylinder, and watch that line when you are installing or removing you cylinder. If it moves stop and keep it away from others and get it to someone who knows how to remove it safely!
Safety should be your #1 concern in paintball!
Talk to your Field Referee, local pro shop or ERMA Approved Filling Station for more information, or contact the equipment manufacturer.
